Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Eastern Newfoundland (BBBSEN) is actively seeking to fill two positions this summer to join our team. For more 50 years we have been championing the health and wellbeing of youth in the metro St. Johns’ area. Serving more than 400 young people each year, we step in before it’s too late, to help prevent the physical and mental effects of adverse childhood experiences. We ensure children as young as 6 are supported by caring and consistent adult mentors as they overcome these adversities, helping them to do better in life – physically, mentally, socially, emotionally and academically. Mentoring relationships change young people’s lives. With training and professional support, BBBSEN mentors form strong positive developmental relationships with their mentees that express care, challenge growth, provide support, share power, and expand possibilities.
ENROLLMENT COORDINATOR
(minimum 12 WEEKS, pending funding approval)
In accordance with National Standards and agency policies and procedures, the Enrolment Coordinator will work directly with the Program Manager and Community-Based Team lead to process all initial inquiries and screening interviews of clients and volunteers, and the written assessments and forms that accompany this process, for the community-based matching program. They will also assist, as required, in the training process for clients, caregivers and volunteers.
This role is at the heart of creating strong, meaningful mentoring relationships by supporting both families and volunteers through the intake and screening process. The successful candidate will be responsible for responding to inquiries from caregivers, youth, and prospective volunteers in a timely and professional manner, guiding them through the application process, and ensuring they are matched to the most appropriate program. This includes scheduling and conducting information sessions and interviews, completing assessments, maintaining accurate records, and following up with applicants to ensure a smooth and supportive experience from first contact through to readiness for matching.
The position also plays a key role in volunteer recruitment and engagement, managing applications, coordinating reference and background checks, and organizing training sessions. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to build relationships are essential, as the role involves regular interaction with families, volunteers, and community professionals. The candidate will also track trends, maintain data systems, and support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes and client experience.
This position requires a mature individual, capable of working with minimal supervision; energetic and creative, possessing excellent written and oral communication skills. They must have a minimum of 2 years post-secondary training in education, social work, psychology or a related field. This is required by BBBSC National Standards to be considered.
Hours of work, Monday to Friday may vary to meet the needs of clients and/or volunteers. Daytime and evening work is required. Flexibility and a high degree of professionalism are required to effectively implement programs. This is a full-time position for 35 hours per week starting between May 19- June 8, 2026. The rate of pay is $18.00/hr.

SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATOR
(minimum 12 WEEKS, pending funding approval)
The Special Events Coordinator will with work directly with the Executive Director and other members of the Fund Development team in the planning, coordination and implementation of agency fundraising events and activities to increase donor base, revenue and support of donors, corporate sponsors and the community. The ultimate goal is to increase agency revenue which in turns funds mentoring programs and services to enable us to deliver on our mission to serve young people facing adversity.
The main duties include identifying potential sponsors/teams, soliciting prize and auction donations, preparing emails, letters, invoices, tax receipts and compiling and reporting all event data and statistics across various platforms primarily for the ‘Go Girls Golf Tournament’ as well as BBBS month and fall events. There is also an opportunity to assist in the creation of marketing content for events, sponsorship packages, social media and website.
This position requires a mature individual, capable of working with minimal supervision; energetic and creative, possessing strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills who is eager about making a difference in the community. Strong ability to work with volunteers, staff and community supporters in a team setting. Strong sales skills, proven fundraising and public relations skills and experience in working with the corporate sector would be considered an asset. The ability to multi-task with strong problem-solving skills, work within a tight timeline and prioritize in a fast-paced dynamic environment also considered an asset.
