Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Eastern Newfoundland (BBBSEN) is actively seeking a Special Events Coordinator to join our team. For more 50 years we have been championing the health and wellbeing of youth in the metro St. Johns’ area. Serving more than 400 young people each year, we step in before it’s too late, to help prevent the physical and mental effects of adverse childhood experiences. We ensure children as young as 6 are supported by caring and consistent adult mentors as they overcome these adversities, helping them to do better in life – physically, mentally, socially, emotionally and academically. Mentoring relationships change young people’s lives. With training and professional support, BBBSEN mentors form strong positive developmental relationships with their mentees that express care, challenge growth, provide support, share power, and expand possibilities.

SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATOR (minimum 12 WEEKS)

The Special Events Coordinator will with work directly with the Executive Director and other members of the Fund Development team in the planning, coordination and implementation of agency fundraising events and activities to increase donor base, revenue and support of donors, corporate sponsors and the community. The ultimate goal is to increase agency revenue which in turns funds mentoring programs and services to enable us to deliver on our mission to serve young people facing adversity.

The main duties include identifying potential sponsors/teams, soliciting prize and auction donations, preparing emails, letters, invoices, tax receipts and compiling and reporting all event data and statistics across various platforms primarily for the ‘Go Girls Golf Tournament’ as well as BBBS month and fall events. There is also an opportunity to assist in the creation of marketing content for events, sponsorship packages, social media and website.

This position requires a mature individual, capable of working with minimal supervision; energetic and creative, possessing strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills who is eager about making a difference in the community. Strong ability to work with volunteers, staff and community supporters in a team setting.  Strong sales skills, proven fundraising and public relations skills and experience in working with the corporate sector would be considered an asset. The ability to multi-task with strong problem-solving skills, work within a tight timeline and prioritize in a fast-paced dynamic environment also considered an asset.

The position is primarily Monday to Friday with daytime hours.  This is a full-time position for 35 hours per week starting between May 20- June 2 , 2025. The rate of pay is $18.00/hr. There may be some evening or weekend work to meet the needs of an agency event.

Applicants must be between the ages of 19-30 years, a Canadian Citizen, permanent  resident, or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible) and legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
