What is “Between Generations” Mentoring?
A variation on our traditional one-to-one program, “Between Generations” matches a mentor from the 55+ community with a young person in need of support and friendship. Mentors are enrolled for either our Community-Based 1:1 program or our In-School program (if public health guidelines allow).
“Between Generations” mentors will contribute years of knowledge, life skills and experience that will help young people feel seen, heard and valued. They will have the opportunity to share their wisdom and provide guidance and support drawing upon years of lived experience to help improve the lives of young people. Likewise, mentors will benefit from sustained community engagement, the many benefits of regular, meaningful volunteer work including cognitive health and self-esteem benefits.
Program Requirements
- Mentors are asked to make a one year commitment to the program and to spend a few hours a month with their mentee, engaging in meetings 2-4 times a month. (transportation is required).
- In accordance with agency standards, volunteer mentors will participate in the enrolment process and training program
